From Millen High to Jenkins County High: A Look Back at the History of Schools in Jenkins County

Did you know that Jenkins County High School was once known as Millen High School?


It’s a fascinating piece of local history that many may not be aware of. In fact, the school colors weren’t always the familiar blue and white we know today—they were actually red and black! It's incredible to think how much has changed over the years.


In 1954, Millen High School officially became Jenkins County High School, marking a significant turning point for the community. This transition not only changed the name of the school but also signified the start of a new chapter in education for the area. The name change reflected a shift in the county's identity and pride, and the school became a central point for students from across Jenkins County.


Before this change, Millen High School had been an integral part of the community for many years. It served as the educational hub for generations of local families, shaping the lives of countless students. As the community grew and evolved, so did the need for a school that could serve all of Jenkins County, leading to the decision to create Jenkins County High School.


Over the years, many other schools have played pivotal roles in the county’s history, each leaving its own mark.
